Boonton's Christmas Parade

COME AND SEE US IN THE PARADE

Boonton’s 17th. Annual Christmas Parade – Saturday, November 27, 2010.  (Rain/snow date November 28). Starts at 1:00 pm at
Upper Plane Street
.

Come and join the parade.  Led by  a Model A Ford and costumed members of the Boonton Historical Society, this year, for the first time, the Society is displaying Boonton’s “The Little Cannon”.

The cannon is a great example of Boonton’s history - it is believed to have been assembled in 1859 by the men of the Boonton Ironworks.

Over the years since then it has been used to announce holidays and celebrations. On July 4, 1865, the cannon sounded when Boonton men were welcomed home from the civil war; again in 1876 when the Soldier’s Monument on
Main Street
was dedicated. The letters B.E.N. painted on the side of the carriage could be the initials of Benjamin Norton who came to Boonton from England in 1830 when the ironworks was established in the Hollow.
The cannon has never been used in combat.

Cablevision will be airing the parade every day for three weeks starting 11/28, at Noon, 3:30 PM, and 8PM.  They are on Channels 78 and 118 for Morris, Passaic, Essex and Bergen
